ちょっと前から謎だった『flood』と『flooding』の違いについて調べてみることにしました。

flood と flooding はどう違いますか？

I'd never thought about the distinction, but yeah that's right!
The flood is the initial surge of water, and the flooding is the water that sticks around to cause more damage.

区別について考えたことはなかったのですが、ええ、その通りですね。
flood は最初の大波、そして flooding はさらにダメージの原因になるじっとしている水です。

flood と flooding はどう違いますか？

Flood can be a noun ("a flood destroyed this town recently") or a verb
("If we don't finish this wall soon, the town will flood")
Flooding is only a noun, and it describes the situation of being covered by water.
("Is flooding common in this area?", "If there is flooding on the highway, we can't go on")
("Is being under water common...?", "If the highway is under water...")
You can also have the past tense verb flooded used as a noun
("Is this area flooded?", "If the highway is flooded...")

Flood は名詞になれます（洪水（flood）は最近この街を破壊した）または動詞
=> "もし私がこの壁をすぐに終わらせなければ、この街は洪水（flood）になるだろう"）

Flooding は名詞だけですし、水で覆われている状況を説明しているだけです。
=> "洪水 (Flooding) はこのエリアでは普通ですか？"もし高速道路が水没 (Flooding) してたら(高速道路に洪水 (Flooding) があったら)、私達は進むことができないだろう"
（"浸水は普通ですか...？"、"もし高速道路が水没したら..."）

過去形の動詞 flooded を名詞として使うこともできます。
=> このエリアは洪水した？、もし高速道路が洪水したら・・・

どうやら『Flooding』と『Flood』には意味の違いがあるようです。
『Flooding』 は洪水で水没や浸水しているような状態。
『Flood』は洪水で水がダバーしてる状態。

品詞については、flood がややこしい感じですね。(゜_゜)
普通は動詞。
変化なしで名詞にもなる。
過去形でも名詞になれる。
