今回は、英単語フレーズ大特訓の UNIT80の②に出てくる新単語の『investigation』の意味を詳しく調べてみました。

意味は『調査』『取り調べ』『捜査』とか。
（別に悪いことをしているわけではないのですが）個人的には、あんまり気持ちの良い意味ではないですね。(゜_゜)
（警察の方とかはそれなりに良い気分なのかもしれないですが）

意味が似た英単語の『examine』との違いについて。

investigate と examine はどう違いますか？

Both words basically mean the same thing.
For example:
"Let's investigate the crime scene."
"Let's examine the crime scene."

両方の単語は基本的には同じことを意味します。
例：
事件現場を調査(investigate)しよう
事件現場を調査(examine)しよう

基本的には同じらしいですが、『investigate』の方が詳しく調べる感があるらしいです。

They can be used interchangeably.
They both mean "To thoroughly go over details and facts to reach a definitive conclusion."
However, an examination is less thorough than an investigation.
For example,
"Let's investigate the crime scene for any clues to the criminal's identity."
"I need to examine this piece of evidence for any traces of DNA."

それらは交換して使うことができます。
それら両方が徹底的に事実や詳細を確認し、決定的な結論に達することを意味します。
しかしながら、"examination"は"investigation"よりも徹底さが少ないです。

例：
何かしら犯罪者の身元の手がかりのために、事件現場を調査(investigate)しよう。
（何かしら犯罪者の身元の手がかりがないか、事件現場を調査(investigate)しよう）
何らかのDNAの痕跡のために、この証拠の断片を調査する(examine)必要があります。
（何かしらのDNAの痕跡がないか、この証拠の断片を調査する(examine)必要ああります）
